ahhh … advice before we start!! i would say the most important thing is to let them know you “hear” them. they can come to you with ANYTHING and you’ll listen objectively. that you’re a “safe” place for them to come. i also lean on the scripture {proverbs 22:6} that says, “train them up in the way they should go and when they’re old they won’t depart from it.”
