For the last couple of years or more, I’ve had the girls forgo birthday gifts from their friends and instead collect a donation for a worthy organization or cause. We’ve even collected donations of books for their school library a couple of times.
But this year, for Hunter’s birthday … I was in such a rush ordering the invitation that I forgot to state no gifts and I hadn’t researched a donation idea. Sigh.
When the invite came, I had intended to include a separate card with a charity donation … but instead just wrote ‘no gifts’ … and this is why.
I did a web search for something like “princess charity” … and up came the International Princess Project! The thing is, it’s an organization helping women enslaved in prostitution and I wasn’t quite sure how to ask for a donation from families of 4 year olds for that. ;)
So what we did instead, was make a donation in Hunter’s name. Perfect.

We just received our thank you letter from the organization and the handwritten note said this:
“Thank you so much for your donation! This past month 25 women completed their training at the
Ashraya Sewing Center and are continuing in the process of restoration, healing and

partnership with International Princess Project and appreciate your generosity.”
I can’t tell you how good it feels to, instead of finding a place to put more unneeded toys, be opening a letter of hope and encouragement knowing we’ve helped 25 women better their lives!
