are you a honker?

Who’s ready for a little personality test?

Say you’re driving along, minding your own business when someone cuts in front of you.  Do you:

a} honk ’til your horn runs out of juice
b} tap, tap to let them know you’re there
c} even though your heart fell to your feet, your hand doesn’t touch the horn

My honest answer is C.  My horn rarely sees any action.  Unless someone is coming into my lane and I literally have no where to go {and even then, I’m more of a “toot-tooter”}, I honestly just don’t see the point.

On the other hand, there have been times that I’ve pulled out into traffic, or cut someone off … totally not on purpose … and I pretty much had to hand the other drivers horn back to them.  Horn blaring, fists shaking, eyes staring … seriously, what.is.the.point?  I sure as heck didn’t do it on purpose.  And I can pretty much guarantee that someone that cuts me off isn’t risking their lives, or mine, by doing it on purpose either.

When something like that happens, and someone shoves their horn down my throat … it takes me much too long to recover emotionally from it.  In fact, a lot of times, it’ll ruin my next few hours.

So what’s my point, you’re asking?  Simply this … is it necessary to respond with such anger?  Cuz that’s what it is, you know … anger.  In the form of a honker.

And I hope you realize I’m talking metaphorically here …

So … does God “honk” at us?

I’m pretty sure there are plenty of things we do that cause His heart to fall to His feet.  And I’m betting it takes Him a while to recover from it emotionally.  I believe He does honk at us, but I believe He’s a toot-tooter.  I haven’t experienced Him as a “horn blaring, fists shaking, eyes staring” kind of God.  On the other hand, I do believe there are times we’re about to be run off the road and He does have to honk harder, but I also believe He saves those honks for when we really need them.

Let’s start loving each other like God loves us.  And let’s start loving Him like He deserves.

i’m more of a happy honker. no lie. my horn is used more to say hello to a friend or neighbor or kids’ sports team practicing their hearts out. i honk for support. and i honk whenever i drive through this old tunnel in town. but that’s about it unless my life is seriously in danger. when people are nasty to me, or they’ve cut me off, i usually wave or give ’em the thumbs up if i pass them eventually. just suits me better than being all ticked off. i certainly hope that’s how God’s loving me. at least now, now that i’m not choosing such erratic life choices. perhaps He’s had to honk at me in the past. but hopefully that is all behind He & i now. (: great thoughts. love ’em!
