what love is all about :: a concert & a giveaway!

If y’all like parties, music, photos, and giveaways … this post is for you!!

You see … my friend Reeve has released her very first CD {I have no doubt there’ll be a second, a third, and so-on!} and I hosted a little backyard shindig to celebrate!

Before we get to some giveaway goodness, let me share a plethora of photos from an amazing evening!

I’m in LOVE with the art on this CD cover!!

When I heard Reeve was available for house concerts, I wanted to host one so badly! I love to entertain, but wasn’t sure how I’d fit everyone inside for a concert. After thinking about it for while, I decided on a backyard concert!

With the help of another friend, Melissa from Relish Design Company, this little shindig turned out exactly how I’d envisioned!!

The trampoline even looks all dressed up and ready to party!! And personally, I think every backyard should look like this 24/7/365!!

Every girl loves a good swag bag! Well … at least I do! I found some fun little bags on my new favorite site, and along with some amazing donations, I started collecting a few fun finds to put in it!

Can I take a moment to tell you about these amazingly, delicious cupcakes?! Salted, caramel, vanilla and Reeses chocolate cupcakes! Worth every calorie-filled bite my friends!

I served hot apple cider, and put my Keurig machine out for decaf coffee. Then I pulled some of my favorite mugs from my cupboard and put them in a vintage drawer {courtesy of Melissa!}.

Do you love that big brown-handled box, bowl thingy with the pumpkins?? I found it at an antique store in Charleston a few weeks ago and knew it’d be perfect! Any thoughts on what it’s called though?

A hay bale repurposed as an ottoman {slash} coffee table.

Delicious candied apples!

Oh you know … if you instagram. And hey! if you do instagram, check out the hashtag #whatloveisallaboutrecord

Set up for an amazing acoustical evening!

Photobooth background!

Having fun with props!

When the sun went down, Megan captured some amazingly beautiful photographs!! I’m so thankful for these shots!

It was an amazing, magical night.

Reeve’s voice is nothing short of angelic! We had the honor of our own private “Reeve Coobs Unplugged” concert. Complete with stories behind her lyrics and a glimpse into the world of an amazing artist.

My neighbor caught me a couple days later and asked about the musician I had in our backyard. They’d had some friends over that same night and were listening to music on their back porch {I heard it and was actually worried it might interfere with our concert}. He said they heard Reeve start singing and immediately turned their music down, mesmerized by her songs!

Trust me friends … What Love is All About is a CD you’ll want in your library! And probably your friend’s music library too … and hello, gifting season is right around the corner!

for girls like you :: featuring wynter AND a giveaway!

I met Wynter Pitts, founder & editor of For Girls Like You, where many of us meet each other … the Internet! She found me through my blog and the Mothers of Daughters blog and introduced me to her fab magazine, For Girls Like You.

For Girls Like You, is a ministry to young girls and their parents, that also includes a quarterly print magazine, journal, and other print and web resources. We have a passion and drive to introduce young girls to Christian values in a way that they are able to palate and digest, so they can walk passionately and boldly in who God has created them to be.

I love what Wynter is doing to point young girls towards Christ {more info below}. And let’s be honest, she gets a few extra bonus points because:

  • her name is Wynter — with a Y!
  • she has four girls too!

Wynter knows how much time we spend at the barn and how two of my girls are all about the horse! Given her readers are between the ages of 6-11 — prime “daddy, I want a pony” age — she asked if my Wynter would like to write a “horsey” article for her readers. Wynt was honored and decided to share about her time away at horse camp this past summer.

Wynt knew what an honor it was to be asked to contribute, but when she got the actual magazine in the mail, I think she was rather impressed with herself {as were her sisters … and let’s be honest, her momma too!}. But when she saw she was featured in the same magazine as DJ Tanner — ohgoodglory!! — she thought she’d made it big! :)

For Girls Like You is passionate about exposing girls to all the things they love {travel, positive role models, creative project, etc.} without the negative imagery and advertising that often appears in mainstream entertainment. Instead they want every article, interview, and photo to support a Christ-centered system for young girls!

As I mentioned, I believe strongly in what For Girls Like You is doing for young girls and am so excited to giveaway a two-year subscription!! Each magazine features many opportunities for your girls to contribute! From designing clothing to researching Biblical principles, there are special sections called “SPRINKLES” that are waiting for your daughter’s input!

For Girls Like You, is a ministry to young girls and their parents, that includes a quarterly print magazine, journal, and other print and web resources. Check them out online, on Facebook, and Twitter!

jewelry with a purpose :: giveaway

The Gracewear Collection inspires to celebrate the love and faithfulness of God by creating a Christian lifestyle brand of jewelry, clothing, and accessories that represents covering women daily in God’s protection, mercy, and grace.

I found the Gracewear Collection a couple of months ago and was instantly smitten! With a mission statement like the one above, how could I not be?!

I was visiting a local boutique I’ve become obsessed with, when two of the Gracewear Collection representatives met me just inside the door. They asked if I’d be interested in seeing their line of jewelry … ummm … shiny? oh you bet!

And then they shared the story and vision behind it.

Ephesians 6:10-18.

Putting on our armor. Our fightin’ gear. Our weapons.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with THE BELT OF TRUTH buckled around your waist, with THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS  in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from   THE GOSPEL (shoes) OF PEACE In addition to all this, take up  THE SHIELD OF FAITH, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take THE HELMET OF SALVATION and THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT ,which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Ephesians 6:10-18 {NIV}

Lastly, from owners Mary and Wendy:

Our vision is to share with women about the gift of God’s Grace, and His promise that there is absolutely NO sin – great or small -that His Grace will not cover. God calls us to be ambassadors for Christ and to let His love and light shine through us. We must be spiritually dressed for the battles that we face everyday – not to draw attention to ourselves, but to bring glory to God by reading His word and sharing His truth and righteousness with others.

And because I believe so strongly in this message — not to mention the jewelry is beautiful! — today I’m giving away the 18″ gold plated necklace pictured in the photo above.

to walk or stay :: a book review {and giveaway}

Sooooo … a friend of mine wrote a book. A very good, very important, everyone must read it kind-of-book!

Lara’s words have always inspired me, both to be a better writer and to be a better Christ-follower. She’s real. Authentic. And knows her the Word of God like no other.

God’s given her a story to share — a heart story — one that comes from the depths of her personal valley and despair.

Although the basis of Lara’s story is the infidelity of her husband and how, with God’s help, she stayed, To Walk or Stay is a faith-filled story in “trusting God through shattered hopes and suffocating fears.”

I knew from reading Lara’s blog, she’d walked through a season of infidelity and betrayal by her husband. And when she released a book titled To Walk or Stay, I assumed she’d be disclosing some details of that season of her life.

Details? Countless.

Countless details on the goodness, faithfulness, and beauty of our Lord God when we listen to Him, press into Him, lean on Him, and trust Him with our everything.

As I was reading through the pages, I couldn’t help but think, “Every married woman I know should read this book!

And then I thought, “Anyone walking through a valley-low should read this book!

And then, “Anyone afraid to completely trust in God should read this book!

And now? Just read it!

I’ve highlighted and marked up just about every page. And I plan to read it again … it’s that good. And necessary!

Let me share just a few of the life-changing words I’ve read:

You and I don’t have the power to pierce hearts and transform lives. It’s not our calling. But we can submit to God’s “change” within us. Introduction

I chose to stay in our marriage in spite of how I felt. Page 18

When I processed the pain with the Lover of my soul, I experienced a joy that this world couldn’t steal. Through the valley of brokenness I learned that true blessing rises as I bind to my God regardless of circumstance. Page 21

God spoke a promise of restoration, but I still battled strong emotions. Page 25

He allows every single valley in the life of His children out of love. Page 31

When thoughts of his weaknesses arose, instead of tearing him down, I learned to break away to a quiet place and pray for him. Page 43

As I prayed for him, my vision changed. I saw him with God’s eyes rather than my own. Page 43

We always have the choice to pray for those who’ve hurt us rather than tear them down. It’s what Jesus did. Page 43

Revival in our world begins with revival in our homes. And revival in our homes begins with revival in our individual hearts and minds. Page 46

As we meditate on God’s Word rather than our volatile feelings, hope arises. As we choose to ponder the Truth of His character rather than our fleeting circumstance, peace falls. He gives us this one life, these few days. May we not waste them with futile thinking! AMEN! Page 47 {exclamation marks and AMEN are mine}

In spite of feelings, and regardless of what may seem like a hopeless situation, the Lord may challenge you to stay committed in your heart, regardless of the unlove of your spouse. He may dare you to stay because He may want to do something wildly miraculous in your home. Page 86 {I’d be remiss if I didn’t add another AMEN! here}

I believe To Walk or Stay will change marriages, lives, hearts, and relationships with our Creator. And I believe in it so strongly, I’m giving away two copies {details to follow}.

Friends, as Lara said … God give us these valleys out of love. And when we trust Him with our brokenness, He meets us in a way we never imagined. It’s then, that God can use our brokenness — our stories — for His glory. God will use Lara’s story in the lives of many, which ultimately points back to Him and brings Him glory.

I’m overwhelmed at the beauty found in His promises.

But wait there’s more!!

I’m excited to also announce details about an upcoming To Walk or Stay Book Club!

Lara did an amazing job including small group discussion points after each chapter, and also includes a “Digging Deeper” section.

The questions and talking points definitely cause one to dig deep. Some of them are even ouchie-deep, but much needed!

The Book Club discussion starts April 18, and will take place on a different blog each week. On May 23, you’ll find the discussion on Chapter 6 right here!

I hope you’ll join us … this study and book are going to bless many!
