spring break 2010 :: island hopping {post four}

Last Saturday, we ventured out and did a little island hopping!  We’ve done this trip before, but took it by boat {2 hour trip}.  The water’s been pretty wavy and rough … and Hunter has a weird phobia about wavy water lately … so we opted for a 20 minute flight instead!  Seriously, good move on our part.

So we flew into Staniel Cay and met our awaiting “carriage.”

The girls were fascinated by the window to the water … and with water that is clear as a swimming pool … there’s lots to see and look at!

We started the adventure snorkeling in this grotto.  It’s called Thunderball Grotto and the movies Never Say Never Again, Thunderball, and Splash were all filmed there.  It was absolutely beautiful!

I’ve never been interested in underwater photography … but I’d have given anything to have even had a disposable underwater camera with me at that point.  There were an amazing amount of beautiful fish.  You could see to the bottom.  There were beautiful holes to swim through with beautiful blue water and light shining through.  Above all that, my heart was filled with joy watching the girls dive down to the bottom, swim after fish, trying to catch something … beautiful.  I want to remember the beauty forever.

And yes … the entrance was the tiny black opening in the photo below.

Precious baby in these flippers.  She was beyond excited!

Next up?  Iguana Island.  Seriously.

Notice a theme here?  This little peanut seems to always be trying to catch up to her sisters … :)

Ohmygoodness!  Hunt and Piper were playing a game of something and Hunter was cracking herself up!!

Next up?  Are you ready for this?  Swimming with sharks.  Yeah.

Now’s a good time to let you know I’m happy my job is “picture maker!”  And Hunter’s job was “shark swimmer watcher.” ;)

Crazy amazing day!  The last thing we did … but didn’t pan out … was a trip to see swimming pigs.  We did this once before and it is the coolest thing ever.  You save your leftover lunch and bring it out to them.  You basically call them … “suuuEY” … you know the pig call? and out they come!

Anyway … there were a lot of boats around and big mounds of food on the island … so the pigs were nowhere to be seen.  Kind of sad in a way that the poor pigs are being so overly commercialized.

I found these images from the last time we did this trip … 3 years ago.  I can’t believe how little the girls look!

Another blessed day in paradise!

Oooh, I’ve been dying to see these pics and they did not disappoint…gorgeous!! And I’d be scared enough snorkeling into the little black hole much less swimming with sharks! Those girls have more adventure in their little finger than I do in my whole body! :-)

p.s. hunter is way too cute in her purple swimsuit (so are the others, but the one of her cracking herself up is great)!

You guys do the best things on vacation! Not sure I’d want to swim with sharks but I love the idea of doing fun + exciting things. At my core I’m not very adventurous so maybe I should sneak onto your next vacation with you so I can learn how to push the limits :-)

Your girls are not only gorgeous but extremely brave — I love that!
