Have you been praying for something or someone? Kind of a rhetorical question I guess, because I know we all do.
Okay then … let me ask you this … for how long have you been praying for that person or situation? A week? A month? A year? Ten years? How ’bout 35 years?
I’ve mentioned before that I’ve been praying for my husband’s salvation for probably the last eight or nine years. But guess what I’ve recently learned? Someone else has been praying for his salvation for the last 35 years! And you know what? I’ve been able to share with her over the last few weeks a beautiful story of redemption.
Over the last few months, I’ve watched with much bittersweetness … my husband, become a follower of Jesus Christ. He continues to grow, search out, and understand what being a Christian is all about. Is he radical-on-fire? No. Is that okay? Yeah … totally.
In fact, in many ways, it’s probably better this way. He has so many questions and doubts. And he’s been careful, but intentional in his growth. Two godly men have come into his life to disciple him. They felt God nudging them to come along side my husband … having no idea what that would entail … they were faithful to the calling and as a result, they’ve watched Curt grow in ways no one thought possible.
I can’t begin to explain how bittersweet it is having my husband send me scripture, do devotion, and even pray together. It’s everything I’ve been praying for … and more.
I want to encourage you to never give up praying … for anything! No matter how long, or how hopeless a situation may seem. “Pray without ceasing,” the Bible instructs. Will you be faithful to that instruction?

it does something to my heart… to hear the proof of answered prayer. radical prayer. I remember you asking me for that. and to find out that someone has been praying for curt for 35 years… gives me a sigh of rest for you. oh how nice it would be to pull the bitter parts away… you know i’d like that for you! but somehow bittersweet seems just-right. for now.

That is so wonderful, Praise God!! I have been praying for my Brother-in-law to come to Christ for the last 5 years. He has so many questions too. I am currently reading The Case For Faith in my small group, and it is an amazing book that answers some of the hardest questions out there about the Christian Faith. It answers those questions that skeptics have that hold them back from Faith. If he hasn’t read it, you should suggest it. It’s very compelling for anyone.
Some individuals come to Christ walking down the church isle holding the hand of their parents and others crawling on their hands and knees, but we all have the common ground of God loving people praying for our salvation. Thank you Lord!

I was looking through scripture with a friend recently and we started asking ourselves, “What does scripture tell us to pray for?” Interestingly, we haven’t found a place that commands us, suggests, or even mentions praying for unbelievers. The disciples prayed for their brothers and sisters in Christ. We must pray for our persecutors (Matt 5). I am supposed to pray so that I don’t fall into temptation. I’m not saying we shouldn’t pray for unbelievers (Mark 11:24) since if we have faith it will happen, but instead we are supposed to “do.” It’s been humbling for me when I think about the people I’ve prayer for and then thought about the last time I tried to talk to them about the gospel. It’s simple to say and hard to do, “It’s time to get off my butt and be the one. I can’t wait for someone else to reach out to them if I haven’t done it already.” The words from my HS football coach ring in my ears, “If not you, then who?”
