snack n’ read :: snowman style

Remember lunch n’ read with Hunter last year?  This year it was snack n’ read {so basically reading in the morning with snack, instead of having lunch}.  Hunter started counting down the days 2 weeks prior … so cute, her excitement was contagious!

She picked the book Snowmen at Night {awesome little read!} and we were off to the races thinking of a snowman snack.  On our recent Aspen trip, we visited a little candy/chocolate shop where they sold the cutest little marshmallow snowmen!  And bonus that they were super easy to replicate!

marshmallow snowmen
6″ lollipop sticks
vanilla candy wafers
marshmallows
mini chocolate chips
various sprinkles & decorations

Put 3 marshmallows on each stick.  Melt the vanilla wafers.  I used 2 bags of wafers and put them in a long Ziploc bowl … that gave me enough room to work with, and also gave me enough melty stuff to work with.  Swirl each marshmallow stick in the melted goodness until it’s covered, then dip the top in your choice of sprinkle and lay on wax paper.  Continue to decorate with sprinkles and mini-chips for the eyes.  We finished them off with a treat bag & twist tie and gave one to each student to take home with them.

Next up!  A snack to eat in class … melting snowmen cookies!  The book we read talks about the snowmen playing at night and being all discombobulated when you see them the next morning … so I thought this cookie would be perfect for snack!  I used this easy tutorial, but if you wanna get all fancy-like, here’s one to explore!

This was a great project and we all loved watching it come together!  Enjoy!
