my poor baby …

I twittered & facebooked yesterday about Hunter being in a treadmill “accident.”  So I thought I’d follow up with a quick post and update about what happened and how she’s doing.

Piper & Wynter each had a friend over Friday night, and they were all well into playing Saturday morning.

We’d just finished a reindeer cookie craft and the girls had all run off to play.

Our exercise equipment is kept downstairs in a different area and the girls also have an “office” play area down there.

Now … the girls know they are not allowed on the treadmill.  We have a password on it and safety checks we thought would ensure they don’t play on it.

While I was in the kitchen getting the cookies out of the oven, etc. … Piper and her friend were coming through and then running back downstairs.  I really paid no attention to it.

Then they came up and asked for an ice pack for Hunter.  Since Hunt is obsessed with ice packs … again, didn’t think anything of it.

Then they came and got juice for her.  Again … just thought “oh how cute, I’m so glad their playing so nicely.”

When I was done with the cookies, I went past the downstairs to go into my office.  Piper was coming up the stairs, so I stopped and chatted with her.  Then went to my office.

Still oblivious to anything going on.  I have no idea how they were able to keep Hunter from crying loudly …

Then heard CJ freaking out.  Freaking. Out.

I went running downstairs to find Hunter laying in a hot mess of tears … hyperventilating from crying so hard … every finger wrapped with a band-aid … I literally fell to my knees.  Can’t describe the sight and fear that ran through my being.

I scooped her up and ran upstairs with her trying to calm her down.

In the meantime, we find out that they were indeed on the treadmill.  Hunter’s hands got caught under it {at the end of the treadmill, where the mat runs under the machine}.  Piper’s friend pulled her out of it, but not before her fingers were rubbed raw.

After we took all the band-aids off to analyze the damage, wash her hands, apply a tube of Neosporin, and administer Motrin … I laid her in our bed to watch TV.  She finally fell asleep.

When she woke and we got her dressed and bandaged, I snapped these.  It’s hard to tell the extent of the damage, as the worse off fingers are bandaged.

Her little fingies are all swollen and raw.

I think the toughest thing will be healing them.  When they get wet, the healing process takes a little longer.  And since most of the damage is right in the crease of the finger … it’s a tough healing spot, as it starts to scab, but you move the finger or extend it … the tightness of the scab pulls apart, you know?

Anyway.  I left her with CJ and took the other 3 shopping.  We met up later for a late lunch/early dinner and then a movie.  Hunter is amazing.

Absolutely amazing.  She hasn’t complained and has just moved on like nothing’s happened.  She’s still bandaged and we’ve bought stock in Neosporin … but praise God, she’ll be just fine.
